Job Description: 

Henderson County Library is looking for a forward-thinking and community-focused assistant library director to lead a customer-service oriented staff. The ideal candidate will work to shape and enhance the library’s role as a neighborhood focal point.

Responsibilities Include: 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision of the Library Director, the Assistant Director will:

  • Assists in the development of budget and grant applications, may direct or monitor expenditures
  • Provides input into the development of policies and procedures for the library.
  • Coordinates library activities, such as collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, processing, mending, withdrawals, recycling of books, and circulation support.
  • Advises library staff on library procedures and issues, including circulation, selection, collection development, cataloging and classification, and/or processing.
  • Provides outreach services to the public. Directs and develops public relations for work activities. Conducts meetings, training, and public programs.
  • Interprets and explains policies to public and staff.
  • Represents Henderson County and the Henderson County Library to the public.
  • Selects library materials and develops collections for the library. Catalogs and processes purchased and/or donated library materials.
  • Oversees cash handling and reporting. Prepares reports, collects and monitors statistics.
  • Conducts meetings, training, and public programs.
  • Develops long and short-term plans. Stays abreast of library issues and trends.
  • In conjunction with the Library Director, responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
  •  Bachelor’s degree completed, or in progress
  • 2-4 years of supervisory experience
  • 1-2 years of customer service experience
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus

  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with other County employees and the public
